How can green finance support natural flood management (NFM) in Yorkshire? That question is at the heart of Ousewem’s latest film in our YouTube series, exploring how investment in nature-based solutions can create more resilient catchments for communities, landowners and businesses.

Public funding alone cannot deliver the scale of action needed to tackle climate change and flood risk. Green finance – investment from the private sector into natural capital – offers a way to scale up ambition and unlock long-term benefits.

This new video follows on from Measuring impact: How monitoring shapes the future of natural flood management, which highlighted how robust data build confidence in NFM projects. Now, the focus shifts to green finance, highlighting how monitoring, partnerships, and investor readiness can help bring new funding into nature-based solutions.

Dan Turner, Rivers Trust, and Shaun Berry, North Yorkshire Council, LINC, explain:

  • why public finance alone cannot meet future challenges
  • how farmers and landowners are central to emerging nature markets
  • the role of monitoring and verification in giving investors confidence
  • the co-benefits for ecosystems, communities and businesses
